AOTW | MacDougall and Kobayashi named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

October 30, 2018

Soccer players, Bethany MacDougall and Shunya Kobayashi have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 28.

MacDougall, a first-year winger for the Hurricanes, had a strong performance on Saturday at the ACAA Championships; the Hurricanes fell to the eventual champions in the semi-finals, 3-1.

The 5’7”, Charlottetown, PEI native, was the Hurricanes Player of the Game recipient in the match.

During the regular season, MacDougall recorded one-goal for the ‘Canes.

Although the women’s Hurricanes fell in the semi-finals, overall it is looked at as a positive season, coming off a year where they missed the playoffs in 2017.  The team is optimistic for the upcoming years with the majority of the roster set to return for next season.

Kobayashi, a first-year winger for Holland College, led the Hurricanes to their fifth straight ACAA Championship this weekend.

On Friday, Kobayashi was named the ACAA men’s soccer Player of the Year for 2018.  He followed this up with a hat-trick performance in Saturday’s semi-final match as the Hurricanes defeated the Mystics 6-0, advancing to the ACAA championship game.  Kobayashi was the Hurricanes Player of the Game in the match.

He wasn’t done yet.  On Sunday, Kobayashi scored the eventual game winner in a 2-1 win over the STU Tommies to capture the conference championship.

The ‘Canes will now shift their focus to hosting the 2018 CCAA National Men’s Soccer Championship in Cornwall on November 6-10.
